2008-2009 Family Advocate
Facilitate positive communication and navigation of resources to preschool families affected by autism. Provide public awareness of autism through an online blog and provide networking opportunities for local families through social networking.
2008-2009 Parents for Choice and Quality
Vice-President of grassroots parent led non-profit organization which supports the development and implementation of a high quality learning and support system for all preschool aged children and their families on Prince Edward Island. Championed the campaign to stop the proposed provincial legislation which would cap the number of childcare centres on Prince Edward Island.
2008-2009 Kindergarten Policy Challenge
Led a group of parents who challenged the current kindergarten funding policy which has created a two-tiered kindergarten system on Prince Edward Island. It is the group’s belief that the current policy that was revised in 2006 does not support the best interests of Island children and has not proven to have any legislative backing to support it.
2006-2009 Autism Society of Prince Edward Island
Board Member from 2006-2007. Identified and secured funding to hire an Executive Director. Active member of the human resource committee during board placement. Led the creation of a Parent Autism Diagnosis Package and quarterly newsletter. Assisted in fundraising as committee co-chair for Curling for Autism bonspiel and Annual Delectable Delightful Evening for Autism. Met with various stakeholders including Government to advocate for improved autism services on Prince Edward Island. Represented the society at the Brad Richards Celebrity golf Classic from 2006-2008 and the annual S.T.A.T.S. Golf Tournament. Provide public speaking services to increase autism awareness.
